An informational guide to using one of the top Education resources available!

What is Education Week?

Education Week is an online journal on education published by Editorial Projects in Education, an independent, non-profit publisher. The newspaper's mission is "to raise awareness and understanding of critical issues facing American schools" (as cited in their About Us page). Thanks to the Education program here at Eastern, current faculty, staff, and students now have access to this great resource.

Top Features of Education Week

Topics - Approximately 130 individual topics on K-12 subjects, with articles arranged in chronological order

Spotlights - Within each topic are "spotlights" related to the issue at hand which include interviews and data on the subject

Issue Backgrounders - Often, background on the topic can be found towards the bottom of the page, written as a higher education/graduate level paper, including citation information

Blogs -

A collection of the most popular blogs on education, arranged by subject, written by education professionals and vetted by the top experts in the field

 

Also includes webinars, with 50 held a year

Reports & Data-

Leaders to Learn From - An annual series produced by Education Week that highlights truly exceptional education professionals, with videos showcasing their achievements

 

Quality Counts - Yearly data organized by state on various educational topics, good for statistical information

Technology Counts - A similar report to Quality Counts, only focused on technology in the classroom

State Highlight Reports - Specific reports based on a single state, including student success, financial reports, and K-12 achievement

 

Video Gallery- A hub of videos to watch and share through social media

  • Can be browsed by subject, or searched with the search bar on the left side
  • To embed one of these videos in Brightspace, you'll need to go to Education Week's YouTube page and use the embed code that can be located there (note: not all videos in the video gallery are available on YouTube, and vice versa).

Jobs - An easy-to-use search tool that can help locate K-12 jobs across the U.S.

Teacher - Great for looking up curriculum examples, and reading special reports on teaching

Digital Directions - Specifically aimed at technology in the classroom
