Critical Essay (3-5 pages) 20 %— The purpose of this essay is to enhance
your critical appreciation of a writer by responding to the reading of a text in your
own voice. For this essay you will be required to select a topic or question
raised by your reading of the assigned poems or essays that will be found
either in our textbook or posted on Brightspace. You are encouraged to
support your interpretation of a text through close analysis of the style and
thematic concerns of the writer. (You may also write a Compare/Contrast
essay to satisfy this requirement.) The rough draft is due on Friday, October
11 and the final draft is due on Friday, October 25.
